Ad Art

It started before the onslaught of the holiday season, but I seem to have been paying a lot of attention to the art of advertising and advertisements.  I know, advertising is intended to grab the eye and focus the mind.  These spoke to me in different ways

I was cleaning out some things from my Mom's place (yes, there have been a couple posts about this), and came across this box.  I have no idea how old it is, but know it has to be quite a few years by virtue of the art and style, and even the name.  I look at the design, and am fascinated by the ornate design of the logos.  And too, the association (real or imagined, I don't know) with the Red Cross as well.

This one I saw on a trip out west.  The simple design and bright colors caught my eye immediately.  it was a dry cleaning company, something not terribly high tech.  But the ad company did a very nice job on the logo.  Looking at it in detail, the number of buttons is just right (somehow an odd number is needed, and three would not have worked), the asymmetrical layout, and finally the crisp, clear shape of the buttons.

The final one was at Arby's, and a request for contributions to help prevent hunger.  The use of an image that looked like torn cardboard turns this from "just" a request for social justice to a memorable item
